We decided to keep a doe out of that litter (Bambam is the Sire). She's a pretty little broken black, named Leeloo. She will join the breeding program in May or June. We started looking at houses to buy in January. We bred Juliet and Pebbles the end of January and March 2nd they both gave birth to very large litters (Juliet 12, Pebbles 10). Unfortunately Juliet lost 8 in the first week, and only has 4 left. Pebbles has raised 8. We will make 2 does from Juliet, and 1 buck from Pebbles available after weaning. |
Wow... I'm not very good about keeping this up-to-date. Last fall we decided to downsize to personal consumption because of a few family issues. Unfortunately at that same time we suffered a brutal dog attack and lost our favorite doe, Bambie, and her litter of 6-7 week old kits. It was a devastating blow, and we had trouble with our litters for a little bit after that. We had our first semi-successful litter in Dec, unfortunately Juliet is still a bit shaken (I'm hoping that's all) and she only raised 5/10. I'll get some more updated pics of the kits soon.

Well the new litter is doing well (and it looks like we have 3 pregnant does due in the next 2 weeks). We had a slight issue with a couple of kits and nestbox eye, but it's clearing up nicely.

We are settling in in Middlebrook. The rabbits are transitioning to forage and pasture very nicely. The last litter is about ready to butcher. A slight delay in butchering due to illness and weather. Juliet and Neala are due any time now. They are both nesting and Juliet has started pulling fur. Plans are under way to make tractor growouts to fully graze growouts and increase breeding over the summer. Hoping to have them done in two weeks at which time we will breed Brigid and Neala.
These guys are getting big. 4 weeks old and over 1#. They are on track to be 5# between 10-12 weeks I believe. First sexing shows 3 bucks (A-B) and 5 does (D-H)... Since they got their letters when their eyes opened I'm not sure how that happened, and has me second guessing for the first time in a while.
We are moving again (should be the final move for a while), but should be breeding next weekend. Neala & Juliet are up for romantic "get aways". Hopefully they do well. Things are looking good for picking up a new trio of Am Chin Juniors, from Peace of Eden. While the current Am Chins are GREAT for meat, they are lacking a little in the fur and personality for me. Peace of Eden has fantastic personality and fur. I can't wait. :D |
